Dear Parents:
The students will be taking the New York State ELA exam later this year, and to help prepare
them, it is beneficial for them to be exposed to a variety of genres of literature. Over the
course of the year, the students will be required to complete a book report activity. They will
be given about a month to read a book within the selected genre and complete a book
report/activity that goes with it. The activity will be specific to each genre, but there are general
guidelines which will be the same for each book report.
Students will read the chosen genre of the month. They must have the book approved
by the teacher by the “book approval deadline” for each month.
Students will complete the required assignment for the genre of that month. Students
must follow the directions and complete the activity according to the guidelines or it will be
returned to be completed appropriately.
Book reports will be due by the date assigned. They may be handed in before the due
date. Students who choose to hand in book reports late will lose recess until the report is
completed and handed in.
Please understand that students are expected to complete the reports independently, with only
guidance and minimal support from parents in order for them to truly benefit from the learning
experience of the activities. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lecarreaux
